Roy Gleiter

Roy Gleiter moved from town to town and job to job after serving in the US Army, settling in Gulfport, Mississippi. He not only lost his trailor to Hurricane Katrina but all his ID as well. Homeless people do have a tough time replacing lost or stolen ID. Mr. Gleiter decided to walk to Colorado where he once lived. Due to his appearance and dragging his few possessions along on a cart he was not welcome and soon left. He walked back to Mississippi and now is walking to Washington, DC in a bid to make people aware of the plight of the homeless.

My husband and I met Roy last Saturday (10/20/07), what a WONDERFUL MAN! Roy has made it to Washington, D.C. and is now in Caroline County, VA, he's packing up as I type this message and is heading South then North to Washington State. We spent some time talking to him, WOW what an intelligent man and what a Mission he is on! We wish the very best in his journey! The Bellefy's, Woodford, VA

I met Mr. Gleiter too last Friday when I interviewed him outside of Wilson, NC. I'm at a community college taking social work classes and he allowed me to conduct the interview. This man is extremely intelligent as he previous person mentioned and has a definite mission in mind. I'll continue to check the internet often for him...

My co-worker met Mr. Gleiter last Friday in Camden, SC. She said she really enjoyed speaking with him. Her and her husband took him some food and cold water. They are now heading to Georgia.

I spent about an hour with Roy Gleiter today near the small town of North, South Carolina, as he travels west on Route 178 in northern Orangeburg County. He has an honesty about him that is very compelling. He's pulling an incredible load on his cart. On hills he pushes from behind while a woman he said was his mother would steer. Otherwise, he straps into a harness and pulls the cart. He accepted some money I offered him and I took all his accumulated garbage to the recycling place. I wish him well.

I am a sociology student and I was on my way back home from school and I stopped and visited this man in Conway Arkansas. This man is very intelligent.

He was getting a hard time in Atkins Arkansas by the State, County, and local police. I helped him move his trailer to the west side of London. I pretty much spent the whole day talking with him. It was well worth the time.

My son started visiting with Roy on the way home from college. He was so enthralled with Roy that my husband and I decided to go meet him. We found a man with a keen mind, strong beliefs and a great desire to change the country. It was so sad to hear how he has been badgered by police officers and attacked by others simply for trying to camp and share his beliefs to anyone that cared to ask. God uses whoever is willing to be obedient to him and clearly..Roy is!

Very Compelling And Highly Motivational. Have Not Talked To Him To Hear His Story, But Definately Want To. I Will Try If He Is Still There Later Today.

I saw this man many times on my way to and from work and wondered what his story was. I never stopped to speak with him but now that I know his story I wish I would have. I saw on the news today that he is camping outside of Mannford, Ok. Good luck Roy.

I met Roy today, he's camped on the side of highway 33 approximately 8 miles East of Stillwater, Oklahoma. I'd noticed his camp for about a week before I was finally able to stop and see what he was about. He introduced himself and told me a little of his journey. I asked him if he needed anything so he said he could use some gas and meat. I told him that I'd be back and headed on in to Stillwater to round up the goods.
A couple of hours later, five of us descended on Roy's camp with a jug full of gas, almost 15lbs of meat and a produce box filled with apples, lettuce, radishes and fresh live herbs, all thanks to Carmen Dorris, aka; "The Tree Lady", Ernie, Dana and her son Michael. I'll be checking on him to see how he's doing during his sojourn in our neck of the woods. We wish you well Roy, and pray for your safe passage on your journey. May you find favor with those repressive minds whose job is to harass the living.

I just wanted to point out a topographical error on my behalf. In my earlier post on Roy's current location, I mistakenly stated that he was camped on the side of highway 33, yet meant to say that he's camped on the South side of highway 51 approximately 8 miles East of Stillwter. I travel both highways everyday, just got the numbers mixed up. My apologies to all ;0)

I gave Roy a new dog and hauled him to Red Rock, Ok (AKA the Pink Pebel) a couple weeks ago. He was still there earlier this week.

I think he named the dog Hunt, it is a black lab and great pyranese cross and should get big. He wanted one that would get big over a hundred pounds and this one looks like it will. He says he is still headed for Seatle. Good luck Roy, got a foot of snow yesterday and 50mph winds. March 21st.

Meet Roy tonight just north of Newkirk Oklahoma, April 5th 2010. He is intelligent and told me the Government did 9/11 and that people shouldn't trust them. When I offered him money and cigarettes he didn't refuse but said he doesn't ask for donations. He's a decent guy and just wants some DVD's.

My husband and I met Roy tonight on Highway 56 in between McPherson and Lyons Kansas. My husband had read a article about Roy earlier in the week in the local McPherson Kansas newspaper. My husband came home and told me about the article and seeing him camped out beside the road, and the temp. being 105 today we loaded up groceries, ice and water and delivered them to Roy! What a genuine person he is! He is VERY intelligent and is VERY knowledgeable about the crisis in our Country. May God bless Roy and Mom during their travels and we will pray that he has a safe journey. Good luck to you Roy :-)

We had the good fortune of coming across Roy and Mom on Hwy 64 just outside Clayton NM, he is a very kind and loving man. Not asking for anything but for people to be aware of the plight of the homeless in our country. The forgotten people who under now cause of thier own ended up in this situation. He has single handedly taken on this message! Step by step and mile by mile. He told us stories of how unfriendly the people in Clayton were to him and many other he has come across. This man is gentle and minds his own business, he is only living off of the land that belongs to him as it does to all of us citizens. We will keep him in our prayers and he agreed to do the same for us! That is more then so many others we encounter in thier fine homes and vehicles and lives have ever done for us! God Bless you Roy and may your message be welcomed by open ears and hearts!

Sad to report that dear Roy was arrested in Pueblo County, Colorado this morning, and all his belongings hauled away, for refusing to move his camp on Highway 50. All he wanted was to wait out the winter and leave in spring. I truly admire him for taking this journey and not giving up. A local attorney has taken on his case pro bono. Bless you Roy!

Roy, mom and his trio of dogs are here in Preston, Idaho. I had the pleasure of stopping and talking with him while he was camped in the Utah/Idaho border. Each day on my way. Y I picked his empty water hugs and took them home to refill. He is a wonderful guy and easy to talk to. He was getting ready to make the 6 mile trek to Preston to stay for a while during some rainstorms. His wagon is still not far from the border and it looks to be having mechanical issues. I hope to see him again before he leaves our area. September 15, 2015.
