Toni Morrison Supports Obama

"Milkman watched the lamp until he realized that focusing on it kept him from seeing anything else. If he wanted to grow accustomed to the dark, he would have to look at what it was possible to see." Toni Morrison from book Song Of Solomon

That quote taken out of context of the story may not make sense to anyone but me. I will liken it to how people are focused on the Super Bowl or Britney Spears latest news, such as saying something like people are better off homeless than being her. What a gal. The day I read that Britney quote I also read about the local Long Beach guy getting sentenced for life imprisonment for the brutal murder of a homeless female. Wrote about that on my Homeless in Long Beach blog.

Staring at a flickering candle flame will tend to calm us and help us forget about our woes~our personal ones and the larger society issues. Our minds freed from the worries or things that plague us~like the character Milkman who was focusing on his dilemma with watching the lamp, is the first step to seeing the possibilities that life offers.

Toni Morrison has announced her endorsement of Senator Obama. She may not have become the best selling author Toni if she settled for the known and what is considered the possible. (See video An American Dream in prior post and listen to what the young woman says in the car.) Toni says in part about Senator Obama:

"In addition to keen intelligence, integrity and a rare authenticity, you exhibit something that has nothing to do with age, experience, race or gender and something I don’t see in other candidates. That something is a creative imagination which, coupled with brilliance, equals wisdom,"

Or great minds think alike. To borrow a phrase: you go gurl!
