Eugene Allen, White House Butler

Eugene Allen started working as a White House butler under President Truman and continued through President Reagan's administration, but never attended an inauguration, until he was invited by the Joint Congressional Committee to attend President Obama's swearing-in. What made this a very special day is because through many of his 89 years, he was denied basic human rights due to the color of his skin. Sadly, his wife passed away the night before election day. Allen said she had planned to vote for then Senator Obama, and he did go vote for the Senator, despite losing his beloved wife of 65 years.
