VA figures say "Louisiana's Per-capita rate of homeless veterans is four times higher than the national average" and lists "only 150 beds" for the estimated 9,950 homeless vets. Kim Marshall is opening her Baton Rouge home to female veterans and their children. Metamophosis, Inc, is a private, non-profit organization which will get a per Diem grant from the Department of Veteran Affairs. It is one of nine specializing in shelter/services for female vets and their children.

A third of female veterans claim they were sexually assaulted.

I have already mentioned this:

"Rates of mental health issues among current military personnel have been found to be higher than during other periods of conflict with some 16 percent of troops returning from Iraq screening positive for depression, generalized anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, according to a 2004 study published in New England Journal of Medicine.

Studies with Vietnam and post Vietnam era veterans have shown that it can be more than 10 years between discharge from military service and becoming homeless. This raises concern over a rise in veteran homelessness over the next decade."
