Sen. Russell Pearce on Arizona Lawsuit

Appearing on CNN's "Campbell Brown" hours after the suit against the state was filed, Arizona state Sen. Russell Pearce, a Republican, said, "The Obama administration simply is filing suit, a political lawsuit if you will, (be)cause they have no leg to stand on."

"They are simply trying to enforce their current policy of no enforcement and amnesty. That's what it's about. They're not worried about (racial) profiling and this bill prohibits it," Pearce said.

Quoted text from CNN article.

I tend to agree that the lawsuit is unfounded. It is not much different than Federal immigration law. To say the Obama administration has a policy of "no enforcement and amnesty" is wrong. Lots of complaints about stepped up ICE activity for those who follow that news. I have never heard President Obama speak of giving illegal immigrants amnesty.

His feelings are that people who have been living in the U.S. bypassing our laws to do so, would be granted citizenship, but would have to go to 'the back of the line'.

If the quote is correct Senator Pearce does not make sense. They are only filing because they do not have a leg to stand on? Huh? The Arizona law does prohibit racial profiling. If President Obama or his staff read it, they would know that.

That does not mean law enforcement will not pick upon people simply because they appear to be of an ethnic group known to violate our immigration laws ~ be that Mexican, Chinese and many other nationalities. But, hey they do that now anyway ~ in just about every state and city in the nation.
