schizophrenic

My schizophrenic nephew has to get a job or do volunteer work in order to keep receiving Medicaid. As a child he was labeled: Learning Disabled. He is now 61-years-old. He has not had a job in a long time. Likely not since he was first hospitalized in a psych ward. He had low paying jobs, like as a dishwasher. He either quit (too hard, co-workers bullied him,) or wa fired (too slow, did not do a good job.)

Ever since his mother died, he has had a home health aide for many years. She had Scleroderma and Raynaud's disease; died from Grave's Disease. His father left the mother when his parents died, leaving him their house and other assets. He promptly moved in with another woman buying her a mobile home, putting it in the woman's name so his wife, my sister, would not get it.

He took out his fireman's pension, which should have been shared with his wife. My nephew was distraught about this; fought with his father. If I remember correctly this is when the young man went downhill. He would call the local police to confess to crimes (he did not do.) They ordered him to be evaluated in a psych ward where he was declared schizophrenic. They gave him medications that turned him into a zombie.

Horrible to see. Anyway all these years later he needs to comply with #45 & Project 2025 regulations. My brother said he could get shopping carts. He no longer drives. He is unemployable. Even for a volunteer job. He could not wash dishes at a soup kitchen or serve food. He could not read to hospitalized veterans, as his mother used to do. He could write letters for them; he loves to write letters.

His handwriting gets worse and worse, to the point of being illegible. I do not know what he writes to people like a mayor or Pope. He writes the same thing every letter he sent to me. He wants to buy out the Catholic church; he wants to be a televangelist like Oral Roberts, etal; he should be a priest, and other unrealistic goals. When I ask his favorite Bible quote he does not answer.

His mother became a born again Christian; so he joined her church. He tells me my granddaughters should join the Coast Guard. No matter how many times I have told him: Not Interested. One just graduated college with a Bachelor of Science Degree; continuing education to become a Pathologist. The other is almost done, majoring (surprisingly) in Hospitality Services.

Who would hire my nephew, or even accept him for volunteer jobs? Or the thousands of disabled across the US of A who now need to find work or lose medical benefits?
